Life’s Too Short to Cry
Tim Vigors · 2006 · 320 pages
Immediately after the fall of France, Tim Vigors learnt how to fly spitfires. Desperate to see some action, he joined 222 Squadron with whom he saw service over Dunkirk and then became an ace during the Battle of Britain.Transferred to the Far East in 1941, he led a flight of Buffalo aircraft to cover the Prince of Wales and Repulse, but he and his colleagues arrived too late to make any difference. Three days later he was dramatically shot down, burnt and attacked on his parachute, eventually being evacuated to Java, and from there to India. He shares his memories of these dramatic events in this gem of a book.
